Farm Stay Guidelines and Safety Policies 1-2023

  • Safety Contract and Liability/Release Form must be filled out prior to participation in any Gift it Forward Farm Rewilding Program or Farm Experiences.
  • Appropriate paperwork must also be filled out for At Ease Bodywork Sessions.
  • All interactions with the animals are done with consent and supervision.
  • No smoking in buildings or anywhere on the property.
  • All the animals are fed a species appropriate diet and we ask our guest to respect that and help us keep them healthy by not feeding any other food or treats.
  • Access is prohibited to pasture/animal enclosures/ outbuildings/sheds/garages without supervision and permission.
  • WIFI is not available. We recommend disconnecting from electronics while you are here. Cell phone coverage is improving but is often hit or miss. Verizon and AT&T seem to provide the best coverage in this area.
  • The door is always open.
  • There is no air conditioning in this old farmhouse. Fans, ceiling fans and a nice breeze through open windows gets us through the summer.
  • We will do everything to provide a clean and peaceful space for your stay. That includes line dried bedding, sheets and towels plus a freshly cleaned bathroom, kitchen, bedroom and shared living area. Still, there can be farm specific dirt, hair, smells and noises that you may experience. River, our Great Pyrenees takes her guardian duties seriously and barks whenever she feels it is necessary. The old windmill can make quite a racket when the blades get going in a counterclockwise direction. Working farms to the West and North, will often provide machinery/tractor noises and manure spreading smells. The rooster and the donkeys are early morning risers and greet the sunrise with the songs of their people!! The county road at the end of the driveway, while thankfully not a superhighway, still has a fair amount of traffic as it connects the small town of Brownsville to Caledonia and Freeburg.
  • Your Farm stay will include an omelet breakfast with home grown organic eggs, courtesy of The Girls. Tea and coffee and good well water is also available. You will be responsible for all other meals and snacks. You are also welcome to any garden produce as it is available. Pots, pans, dishes, silverware, stove, and fridge are part of the shared space. We just ask that you clean up after yourselves.

Gift it Forward Farm

is 18 beautiful, scenic miles from La Crosse WI. There you can find additional lodging, and food options, our favorite being The Peoples Food Coop. If you are looking for an eclectic, small town coffee shop, The Wired Rooster in Caledonia MN has you covered. They also offer sandwiches, salads and ice cream! Another small-town treasure is The Caledonia Bakery, right across the street from the Wired Rooster. The best pizza around comes from Saxon Hall, only a few miles away in Brownsville, MN.

Located in the Driftless Region, Gift it Forward Farm is part of a unique geographic region that was untouched by the glaciers of the last ice age. The bluffs and coulees surrounding the Mississippi River Valley in this driftless area are aptly named “god's country” Below is a link that will aid your explorations of all this area has to offer.
